You want repeatable brand materials across a content team
Brand Kits, approvals and shared workspaces provide a path from one design to a managed process.
Both apps can turn text, images and templates into social posts or presentation material. The useful comparison is the whole publishing job: finding approved assets, making variants, getting feedback and delivering the right file. Your existing subscriptions and preferred devices can change the answer.
Brand Kits, approvals and shared workspaces provide a path from one design to a managed process.
Its documented linked-asset workflow can reduce repeated imports when the necessary memberships are present.
Shortlist Canva for a reusable content workspace with its current brand tools. Shortlist Express when Adobe asset handoffs or a monthly Premium commitment fit your work. Start with the free plans and one real deliverable rather than paying for a longer feature list.

A poster assembled from your own photographs has different needs from a campaign supplied by an Adobe designer. Express documents linked PSD and AI assets, but the source Photoshop or Illustrator membership still matters. Canva's Brand Kits organize a different kind of reuse: colors, logos and consistent visual choices. List the material you receive each week and who is allowed to change it. The better fit is the application that preserves that handoff without requiring someone to rebuild approved work every time a new size is needed.
Source 1Source 2Source 3The verified US Canva Pro card is $144 billed annually for one person. The verified Express Premium offer is $9.99 monthly with no annual commitment. Those are different purchasing schedules. A short project can make monthly flexibility valuable, while a full-year workflow may justify annual billing. Express Teams is another product with an annual commitment and a minimum seat count; do not apply its promotional per-person price to a solo monthly plan. Check an existing Adobe entitlement before adding a second payment for overlapping access.
Source 1Source 2Source 3Make one finished asset with your own text and images, then ask whether the exact download is available. Express's current table includes transparent PNG export on Free. Canva's help places several advanced output controls in eligible paid or educational plans. That difference can matter more than a count of stock assets. Test the entire path from a blank design to the required file, including a second size and a correction after feedback. This comparison has not timed that process or established that either interface is easier for a beginner.
Source 1Source 2Canva now allows prepared designs to be edited offline through supported routes, including desktop browsers and Android. Its iOS and iPad apps are excluded from that particular feature. New designs cannot be created offline and the offline period is limited. Express's mobile requirements call for an internet connection. A traveler should therefore check the actual device and task rather than rely on the word mobile. Prepare a disposable design and rehearse the disconnected session before a trip. A cloud-saved file alone does not establish offline readiness.
Source 1Source 2Being able to share a design does not automatically settle who may reuse its contents elsewhere. Canva's commercial-use guidance distinguishes an original design from reselling library material by itself. Express also has conditions around its stock collection and generated outputs. Keep your own source assets identifiable so a client handoff does not depend on vague assumptions about everything in the library. For team work, separately test who can edit, who can comment and who owns the final working file. Those questions matter even if both tools can produce the same visible image.
Source 1Source 2Source 3Source 4Choose three representative deliverables: a single social image, a multi-page presentation and a piece that someone else must revise. Keep the original files intact while rebuilding only those samples. Check the downloaded files in their destination application and note every repair you make. Canva documents that Office exports can differ from the original and that animated content does not fully transfer. Similar care is sensible for any format conversion. Switch when the recurring workflow works better, not simply because the first template looked attractive or a trial exposed a feature you rarely use.
Source 1Source 2Canva is a strong candidate for a recurring brand-content operation. Express deserves priority when Adobe asset reuse or monthly flexibility solves a concrete need. Test the deliverable, revisions and export before committing.
The linked pricing table distinguishes Express Premium from bundles with Photoshop access. Do not assume a Premium Express subscription includes the desktop editor.

Graphic design · Choose Figma when reusable interface components, layout behavior and prototypes are part of the deliverable. Choose Canva when the recurring job is producing branded content or presentations. Their wider product suites overlap, so compare the specific workflow you need.
Graphic design · Affinity is a serious candidate when you want local photo work without a recurring payment for the core editor. Photoshop deserves priority when a client's editable PSD requirements or an established Adobe workflow determine the handoff. Verify the actual files before switching.
Graphic design · Choose GIMP when an open-source desktop workflow fits the job and you can validate the handoff. Choose Photoshop when a specific Adobe capability or client requirement justifies the subscription. Keep GIMP's native XCF archive separate from files exported for other applications.
