About Software Signal
Software Signal is a software-comparison project for people choosing tools for creative work and everyday productivity. The current focus is video editing, note-taking and graphic design. Product profiles share the same research records, so a corrected fact can be carried into every comparison that uses it.
Start with the job
A short social video, a team workspace and a private notebook have different requirements. Recommendations explain the conditions behind a choice. There is no universal winner, aggregate score or paid ranking.
Keep facts separate from judgments
Our current catalog is researched from official pricing pages, documentation and vendor support material. Advice about fit is an editorial interpretation of those facts. We have not independently benchmarked these applications or purchased every paid plan.
How AI is used
AI tools assist with gathering source material, organizing comparisons and drafting explanations. A generated answer is not a source. Published claims link to the vendor material or recorded app observation that supports them, with unresolved details labeled. AI-assisted research can still miss a condition or misread a source, so check the linked evidence and the vendor’s current terms before buying.
What the evidence labels mean
- Vendor documented: the cited official page supports the statement with the plan and platform conditions shown.
- Observed in an app test: a recorded test supports the statement. This label is used only when the workflow was actually performed.
- Not yet verified: the available evidence does not settle the question.
- Sources disagree: relevant official pages conflict. We show the disagreement rather than silently choosing one.
Prices need their terms
We preserve the source currency, region, billing interval and commitment. An annual plan advertised as a monthly equivalent is labeled with that commitment. We do not treat a promotion as a permanent price or convert currencies into a universal offer. The vendor’s checkout determines what you actually pay.
Research once. Review where it matters.
Product facts support several comparison pages. When a fact is revised or a tracked source changes, affected articles enter a review queue. A changed page is a signal to investigate, not permission to automatically rewrite a recommendation. Source dates appear beside the evidence.
What an app trial can establish
Our first recorded Photopea trial verified signed-out creation and basic editing of one small image. PNG preview succeeded but a downloaded file was not verified. That narrow observation does not establish overall usability or performance. The rest of the catalog remains based on documented evidence.
A useful test needs the app version, operating system, account plan, task, input files and observed result. Export tests should include output settings and file evidence. Timing claims need comparable hardware and repeated runs. Until those records exist, this site does not call a documented capability a tested result.
Editorial independence and funding
This project is intended to be funded by display advertising if readership makes that practical. No advertisements or behavioral advertising trackers are active in this release. Vendor links are ordinary source links. We do not sell a position in the comparison and we do not invent user reviews.
Corrections are part of the product
Published facts are reviewed before updates appear on this site. Public correction submissions are not available in this release. Research dates and source links remain visible so you can check the evidence and confirm current terms with the vendor.
